The Tap Game

Last night, The Baby was kicking. So I laid there and when she kicked I would tap-tap-tap on The Wife's stomach and I would talk to her. I feel like I haven't done enough of that. I'm getting high marks overall for my participation, but when it comes to direct connection with my child, I feel like I'm not going the distance. We go go go all day long and then fall into bed spent and go to sleep pretty quickly.

From BabyCenter:

You're nearly in the home stretch. Your baby is growing steadily as he prepares for delivery day. This week he weighs about 2 pounds and is between 12 and 15 inches long. He's acting more like a newborn now, too. He opens and closes his eyes, sleeps and wakes at regular intervals, and may suck a finger or thumb. He may also be hiccuping a lot this week, which explains that odd rhythmic sensation you've probably been feeling.

Innocent Bystander

The Wife sent this article a whlie back but I didn't read it until now. (Mailbox overflow.) Hopefully I'd get pretty decent marks in this area.

In other news... The Baby is, at times, simultaneously kicking and punching. And the ceiling of the nursery is all painted. This weekend is one last trip to see the Mother-in-Law, our last real out-of-town trip before baby time.

Registering is all done at Babies 'R Us and Target. And after worrying that no one had mentioned a shower, there's now a committee of like 5 planning the shower which makes The Wife feel really loved.

Sleepless in Somewhere

Sleep varies from night to night. Some nights it's good, some nights, it's bad. Sometimes I can't sleep, sometimes I sleep great. Some nights The Wife can't sleep and some nights, no problem. Sometimes we sleep in different rooms because one of us is keeping the other up, either me with the snoring or The Wife with the restlessness.

And The Baby seems to like to wake up and be the most active as The Wife is laying down to go to bed. Woo, a night owl.

Last night I woke to the sound of ferocious coughing, and maybe some wretching. The Wife was really not well at all. Could not stop coughing or gagging, spitting up stuff for the longest time. And it was making her cry and she kept having to blow her nose. It wasn't good and she was scared, said she had never had that kind of burning feeling in her throat before. It did eventually subside and she said she was going to sit on the couch for awhile and drink some milk and I went back to bed. Woke up this morning and she was beside me, so I guess there was no recurrence, thankfully.

Kick Me with Your Best Shot

We're starting to feel The Baby kick. It's pretty neat. Sadly, she'll never understand these references.

S and D had W on 1/31 and by now N and S must welcomed K's little brother or sister. But D and J just announced that they are expecting, so there's still us and 13 more couples expecting. We'd seen waves before in our Sunday School class, but this is a tidal wave.

The baby book says The Baby's eyes are fused shut but that she's starting to use the muscles that open and close the eye lids.
